I am reminded yet again today that things are delicate. On a long enough scale, almost everything is temporary. And yet, we wake up every single morning, with complete faith in the lives we lead.
We yearn to feel valued, to feel connected to the world around us. We fool around to pass time and try to get on with whatever we’re supposed to be doing. We read books to find pieces of ourselves in them. We go to the Cinema to make the day feel complete. We are fascinated by history because we yearn for connection. The fact that people led the very lives we live, thousands of years ago, comes off as comforting. It almost instills a keen, reassuring belief that we indeed belong.
So, why do we do what we do? Is it not to feel valued? Is it not to feel significant in some way? We know very well that this endeavour of ours will inevitably fail, but we try anyway. Because we can.
At the end of the day, we look for ways to find the little something that tells us that whatever we’re doing, it’s okay–that we are fine–that we will wake up the very next morning and keep at it again. Your days are numbered. Have fun.
